Deep Bleu: Burger Joint with a View

Every Mondays after block exams, it is has become a tradition for Chris, Arif and I to head to Deep Bleu Bar and Grill to celebrate the end of block exams, and we’ve gone for the past several semesters. While my friends go for the 2-for-1 Margarita Mondays, I often go for a milk shake or fruit smoothie instead, not being a big fan of margaritas.

What makes this burger joint stand out, besides the yumminess of a good ole American hamburger, friendly waitstaff and it’s convenient proximity to AUC, is it’s magnificent view of Simpson Bay Lagoon. It’s a great place to hang out with friends, all the while enjoying a big burger while looking out over the waters below and the mountains in the background.

Deep Bleu is located in Cupecoy, Dutch St. Maarten, close to the American University of the Caribbean. To get to Deep Bleu, just walk into The Summit Resort and follow the signs. It’s NOT the one by the pool. Walk past the pool and you get to a flight of stairs that lead you down to the restaurant, by the lagoon.

Atmosphere:
The atmosphere is what I love most about Deep Bleu. It’s a small place, hidden within the Summit Resort, but has a magnificent view of the Lagoon, especially being on elevated terrain. The restaurant is clean and comfortable.

Service:
As a small restaurant, there’s usually 2 or at most 3 people working at Deep Bleu. The waiters or waitresses are usually spouses of AUC students, and they are always friendly and personable.

Food:
The tuna fillet burgers are really good and seared however way you want it. My personal favorite is the Southwestern Bacon Cheeseburger, with their fried onion ring and barbecue sauce on the burger. Their Philly Cheese steak is pretty good too. Their burgers usually come with a choice of curly, sweet potato, or regular fries, or onion rings. My favorite are the sweet potato fries.

**UPDATE 1/2013**

As of January 2013, Deep Bleu appears to have closed. The American owner has returned home to the mainland. I’m not sure if there will be new management or a new restaurant to take its place in the future. I will miss this place.

    Hey Benji,
My husband is a first semester student and for valentines day I’d like to have some sort of meal delivered for him. I’ve tried going online to see what restaurants deliver but I haven’t had any luck. Do you know of any restaurants that deliver, and if so could you please send me there contact information. Thank you.

      Hi Sheila,
That sounds like a really sweet thing to do for your husband! I’m not the best person to ask about delivery, but I did find this from Google: http://www.mapsxm.com/food-delivery . Of those restaurants in the list, seems like the most Valentine-appropriate and closest would be Bamboo Bernie’s, which serves Japanese food.
      Good luck!
      Benji
