Text Messaging from Abroad

Like any other couple in love, Irene and I like sending cute-sy little text messages to each other at random times during the day. Once I get to SXM, though, I won’t let the fact that we’re in two different countries become a barrier to this wonderful mode of communication. Text messaging costs extra on Skype, so one of my friends told me a great way to text message via Google Talk to cell phones of friends back home for free! To enable it,

1. Log into Gmail

2. On the top right corner, click on “Settings”

3. In “Settings,”  click on “Labs”

4. Scroll down until you see “Text Messaging (SMS) in Chat.”

5. Click “Enable” and then “Save Changes”

6. Now, you can start texting your contacts!

7. To do so, in the main chat window, hover over your contact’s name, then click “videos & more”

8. Click “Send SMS”

9. Add your contact’s phone number, then start texting away! Your contact’s phone number will be
saved, and you would not need to enter a number every time. Have fun!
